The National Assembly Standing Committee concluded its 43rd session in Hanoi on September 30 after 11 days of sitting. They discussed a number of pressing issues and gave opinions on 18 draft laws and ordinances which are expected to be passed at the NA session next month.
Deputies heard reports on the results of the equitisation of State-owned enterprises (SOEs), the quality of teachers and educators, the efficiency of bank credit programmes and the implementation of the five-million ha reforestation programme and a programme to provide poor ethnic people with housing, cultivation land and water supply. They also heard reports on the results of multilateral negotiations on Vietnam’s entry into the World Trade Organisation and its admission roadmap.
Deputies analysed the underlining causes of weakness in several sectors, including the moral degradation of teachers in recent scandals and insufficient water supply for ethnic people. They questioned several Government representatives on the relatively slow progress of the SOE equitisation process and the five-million ha reforestation programme.
Deputies gave opinions on 18 draft laws and ordinances, including new bills which have captured great public attention such as those on residence, tax management, and donation and grafting of body tissues and parts. These legal documents are expected to be passed at the 10th session of the National Assembly late this year.
