Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam has made active and practical contributions to the 27th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation (AIPO-27), a legislative official said on Sept. 22.

Vu Mao, Chairman of the National Assembly's (NA) Committee for External Relations, made this report to the NA Standing Committee on the result of Viet Nam's participation in AIPO-27, which was held in Cebu, the Philippines, from Sept. 10-15.

Recommendations as well as opinions on several controversial issues made by the Vietnamese delegation, led by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, were very much appreciated at AIPO-27, Mao added.

The chairman also said that AIPO had undergone significant change after its 27th General Assembly and was now a united and more efficient organisation.

The renaming of AIPO as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) showed AIPO's determination to become more efficient and practical, he said.

Members of the NA Standing Committee suggested that Viet Nam take appropriate steps along with the re-organisation of AIPO, to map out an ASEAN integration roadmap for both the executive and the legislative to ensure that Viet Nam's measures were in harmony with the ASEAN development process.
